• Archive - hours, min retention of 180 days

• hot - active db, straming data

• cool - backup files, monthly reports
• cold - historical logs, compliance data, previous years' datasets
• archive - long term backups, legal records, medical archives, old financial records

Archive is rehydrated to hot or cold before use
